Add your thoughts to the Winter Issue!

We’d like to hear your thoughts about:
Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times, Katherine May, Riverhead Books, 2020, 256 pages.  - OR - Greenwood: A Novel, Michael Christie, Hogarth, 2021, 528 pages.

We’re eager to hear your questions, ideas, and insights so we’re inviting readers to share your impressions with our Nature Book Guide audience! Submit your text or audio files by Sunday, November 24 for consideration for the Winter issue. Some submissions may be shared on our blog and/or social media, even if you submit after November 24th. We’re excited to hear from you!

Getting Started with Your Audio Book Recommendation

You might write down what you wish to say. Start with a brief introduction, including your name and where you're from. You could read from your notes or speak extemporaneously, taking care to do so in a calm voice.  Please keep your comments to no more than a minute.

Three notes on preparing your text:

    • Time goes quickly. It will be hard to get everything in, so focus on one or two points you want to share. You won't be able to cover all your thoughts and questions in a minute-long audio.

    • Perfection is the enemy of good. Don't worry about messing up! Feel free to make several draft recordings.

    • Thank you for participating in this experiment in sharing book recommendations for Nature Book Guide

Instructions
1. To start, you might visit the free resource, www.online-voice-recorder.com (or another voice recorder that creates .mp3 files).

2. If you're using this free resource, press the red button under "Click the button to start recording." The recorder starts immediately.

3. To stop recording, click the red button again.

4. Listen to the playback by clicking the right arrow underneath the timeline that appears.

5. To save, click "save."  This will download your .mp3 file to your device.

6. Attach the file to an email and send it to us at naturebookguide@gmail.com. Add whatever notes you’d like to your email.

And while we prefer receiving audio files, we will be happy to receive your comments in regular old emails, too.

Beth Nobles-Founder/Editor of Nature Book Guide

As a high school student in the Youth Conservation Corps, Beth built trails and trail bridges in Illinois state parks. Mid-career, she led the Texas Mountain Trail as Executive Director for a decade, and through a partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife, developed the Far West Texas Wildlife Trail and map. Before retiring in 2021, she led the Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership, an organization supporting an urban trail along a riparian corridor in the Denver metro area. She's organized countless volunteer opportunities to connect others to science and the outdoors; founding the Nature Book Guide was another effort to do the same.
